Comment:
Yeast cells which are a normal constituent of faeces, they can be confused for Protozoan cysts or microsporidia. They are oval with a thick wall but have no internal structure. In Trichrome stains under LM, they appear uniformly stained red to green. If there are budding yeast cells and/or pseudohyphae present in a fresh or freshly fixed sample, they should be reported as they may indicate the presence of pathogenic yeasts, particularly important in immuno-suppressed patients.
